Chess Tactics: Discovered Attack

Among the many tactics you can use when you play chess to win the discovered attack is maneuver to surprise your opponent. It is a really powerful tactic any player can use. The power behind this is that you reveal a threat to one of your opponent's pieces while revealing another piece poised to attack another piece. Usually, the benefits of using this chess tactic are being able to gain material and add momentum to your game.

The idea behind the discovered attack is to exploit the fact that your opponent can't always handle two separate threats given at the same time. There are times when you give two simultaneous threats where your opponent can make a substantial reply. But that isn't always the case in any game of chess. Most of the time when you or your opponent will encounter two simultaneous threats to different chess pieces, the threatened player would have to give one piece or another.

There different kinds of discovered attacks not just the ones designed to get more material from your opponent. You have a discovered attack with a check, you also have what is called a discovered check, and there are discovered attacks that result in double checks.

Since the discovered attack tactic requires two of your chess men working in unison this would mean that one piece will move and one will just stay put but revealing a threat to an opposing chess piece. If your moving chess piece checks the King and the other piece makes the discovered attack, this is called a discovered attack with a check.

But when the stationary piece gets to check the opposing King while the moving chess piece gets to threaten something else this is known as a discovered check. The other type of this chess tactic is the one that results in a double check, which means that both the stationary and the moving chess piece checks the opposing King.

Making a discovered attack is an interesting move to pull up. You should use chess tactic when the opportunity presents itself. Combined with the other moves and tactics in the game this tactic makes a solid strategy.

The discovered attack is a powerful move you can use if you play chess to win. This is an attack made by your Bishop, Rook, or Queen when another chess piece moves out of the line of fire to attack another unsuspecting opposing chess piece. You'll do well to remember and use discovered attacks to gain material over your opponent and to add momentum to your game.
